PinoySG Badminton Club captures Dual Meet Cup Championship by slight margin

It was not an easy finish for PinoySG Badminton players against a formidable and more experienced team of players from Tropang Smashers. Tropang Smashers made it more difficult as their Womens Division dominates in their Division leading the score to an almost tie.

Tropang Smashers came in with a Green uniform while PinoySG players with a blue uniform color. It was one fine, warm day and crowd and players alike waited with excitement and enthusiasm. The program started with a welcome speech from both leaders of each team where they introduced their members and narrated the history of their club.
“We had joined several dual meet this year, and we are thankful that we are playing with PinoySG Badminton Club because its an oppurtunity to play with our fellow Filipino players as well get to know your members” said by Caloy Gavieta, Tropang Smashers Head.
Gary Cristobal, the current 2008-2009, Club Head of PinoySG Badminton Club, quoted “ We are here not to determine whose the best or whose the weak team, but we are here because we are all Filipinos, and we all love badminton. We want to promote friendship to everyone. After all, we belong to the same race”.
Tropang Smashers, is a 4 year old team which was founded last year 2004 by the bubbly Nimfa Aliposo. Currently, the team is lead by Caloy Gavieta, whose fatherly cool attitude added more inspiration to the team to strive to be the best Filipino badminton group in Singapore.
PinoySG Badminton Club is one year old club which started last year 2007 of March by a group of Filipino professionals who called themselves as Badheadz (badminton heads). Part of the original group who started the club who still serves at present was Cristina, Molinyawe, Elma Sarmiento, Emilio Niduaza, Gary Cristobal, Aimee Reyes, Mondel Macatangay and Kristian Anquillano. The club was recently registered as a legitimate non profit badminton club by the Registries of Society of Singapore and prides itself with the highest registered badminton players. Its open policy in the membership has attracted almost an average of 60 players every weekend schedule.
Tampines Sports Hall was filled with both cheerers and spectators as more than 100 Filipino crowd came and enjoy every match. It was a very close game as each team outdoes each other in every Division.
The game started with PinoySG Mens Division capturing Gold on LEVEL B-, B+ and A. Tropang Smashers follows with a Silver Medal. Pinoysg captures an overall total of 7 wins for Mens A, 14 wins for Mens B+, 6 wins for Mens B- against TS Mens A 5 wins, TS Mens B+ 2 wins and TS Mens B- 2 wins.
Caloy Gavieta TS Head, goes for a “group hug strategy” and planned the next contingency plan for the Tropang Smashers.
Tropang Smashers with their skilled women players came back strong as they beat the PinoySG Women players and capturing the Gold in Womens Divison posting 9 and 5 wins for Level A and B. PinoySG Women follows with 3 wins on both levels.
Mixed Level proves to be the deciding factor as each team, collected points on each Division based on wins. After the first set of games, the two teams were still not sure who will capture the Gold Dual Meet Cup. As more crowd came, cheering their friends, players begins to feel the heat of the game, as Mixed Level A goes for a tie with 8 wins from both PSG and TS. Mixed B, was won by TS with 12 wins against 8 wins of PinoySG.
Total tally counts of wins were calculated and everyone was anxious to know who will win the dual meet considering the closeness of the total number of wins between the groups.
Final decision came and PinoySG Badminton Club garnered a total 49 wins against Tropang Smashers who got 43 wins. PinoySG Badminton Club was declared as the PSG-TS Dual Meet Champion with 6 wins margin.
It was a close fight indeed, as Tropang Smashers proves themselves to be a tough nut to crack. Their team is still in its peak fighting form and PinoySG Badminton club were very grateful and proud to have played with one of the best Filipino badminton group in Singapore.

WESTERN UNION provided fun to the tournament as they gave raffle prizes to all lucky players. Western Union, the number 1 Money Remittance Agency here in Singapore also did give umbrellas, Mcdonalds vouchers and other prizes.

The first Tropang Smashers and PinoySG Badminton Club was very successful due to the coordination and cooperation from both groups.
A day of camaraderie and friendship indeed as everyone hugged, cheered, and shake hands with each other for a very successful tournament. And as the day ends, they look up and reminisce how lucky they were for having truly dedicated people such as Tropang Smashers and PinoySG Badminton Club officers to host events like this.
