PinoySG Badminton Club captures Dual Meet Cup Championship by slight margin

Filed under: Group Activities — admin @ 12:00 am

It was not an easy finish for PinoySG Badminton players against a formidable and more experienced team of players from Tropang Smashers. Tropang Smashers made it more difficult as their Womens Division dominates in their Division leading the score to an almost tie.

Tropang Smashers came in with a Green uniform while PinoySG players with a blue uniform color. It was one fine, warm day and crowd and players alike waited with excitement and enthusiasm. The program started with a welcome speech from both leaders of each team where they introduced their members and narrated the history of their club.
“We had joined several dual meet this year, and we are thankful that we are playing with PinoySG Badminton Club because its an oppurtunity to play with our fellow Filipino players as well get to know your members” said by Caloy Gavieta, Tropang Smashers Head.
Gary Cristobal, the current 2008-2009, Club Head of PinoySG Badminton Club, quoted “ We are here not to determine whose the best or whose the weak team, but we are here because we are all Filipinos, and we all love badminton. We want to promote friendship to everyone. After all, we belong to the same race”.
Tropang Smashers, is a 4 year old team which was founded last year 2004 by the bubbly Nimfa Aliposo. Currently, the team is lead by Caloy Gavieta, whose fatherly cool attitude added more inspiration to the team to strive to be the best Filipino badminton group in Singapore.
PinoySG Badminton Club is one year old club which started last year 2007 of March by a group of Filipino professionals who called themselves as Badheadz (badminton heads). Part of the original group who started the club who still serves at present was Cristina, Molinyawe, Elma Sarmiento, Emilio Niduaza, Gary Cristobal, Aimee Reyes, Mondel Macatangay and Kristian Anquillano. The club was recently registered as a legitimate non profit badminton club by the Registries of Society of Singapore and prides itself with the highest registered badminton players. Its open policy in the membership has attracted almost an average of 60 players every weekend schedule.
Tampines Sports Hall was filled with both cheerers and spectators as more than 100 Filipino crowd came and enjoy every match. It was a very close game as each team outdoes each other in every Division.
The game started with PinoySG Mens Division capturing Gold on LEVEL B-, B+ and A. Tropang Smashers follows with a Silver Medal. Pinoysg captures an overall total of 7 wins for Mens A, 14 wins for Mens B+, 6 wins for Mens B- against TS Mens A 5 wins, TS Mens B+ 2 wins and TS Mens B- 2 wins.
Caloy Gavieta TS Head, goes for a “group hug strategy” and planned the next contingency plan for the Tropang Smashers.
Tropang Smashers with their skilled women players came back strong as they beat the PinoySG Women players and capturing the Gold in Womens Divison posting 9 and 5 wins for Level A and B. PinoySG Women follows with 3 wins on both levels.
Mixed Level proves to be the deciding factor as each team, collected points on each Division based on wins. After the first set of games, the two teams were still not sure who will capture the Gold Dual Meet Cup. As more crowd came, cheering their friends, players begins to feel the heat of the game, as Mixed Level A goes for a tie with 8 wins from both PSG and TS. Mixed B, was won by TS with 12 wins against 8 wins of PinoySG.
Total tally counts of wins were calculated and everyone was anxious to know who will win the dual meet considering the closeness of the total number of wins between the groups.
Final decision came and PinoySG Badminton Club garnered a total 49 wins against Tropang Smashers who got 43 wins. PinoySG Badminton Club was declared as the PSG-TS Dual Meet Champion with 6 wins margin.
It was a close fight indeed, as Tropang Smashers proves themselves to be a tough nut to crack. Their team is still in its peak fighting form and PinoySG Badminton club were very grateful and proud to have played with one of the best Filipino badminton group in Singapore.
Here are the best players of the game who were unbeatable in their division.

PinoySG Warfreakz is crown as the 1st SINGAPORE PAINTBALL NOVICE SERIES 2008 OVERALL GRAND CHAMPION

Filed under: Group Activities — admin @ 12:00 am

I was mumbling different letters in my mind….B..L…K…W…A…N….and I don’t even understand what those letters means as I tightly gripped the Spyder mechanical marker with my hands ready for the breakout attack. But even with a year of paintball experience, my heart is pounding uncontrollably. I cannot almost breathe in the field but our minds were focused on winning all 8 games in the elimination round to secure the championship crown…..and we did. After 1 year of 3-leg SPNS series, the PinoySG paintball warriors easily captured the championship crown with a very wide margin of points ahead from the other local teams.

The 1st leg Singapore Paintball Novice Series 2008 started last March 30, 2008 at Red Dynasty Paintball Field with 8 teams participation where PSG Warfreakz sent a 4 man representative composed of Nabelrock, Blade, Speed and Ipoy.
As paintball newbies, our offensive style was very effective against our Singaporean opponents as we ranked number 1 during the elimination round. The first leg of SPNS ended with PSG Warfreakz capturing the 1st runner up position losing to a 1 game single elimination against Red Lords.
The 2nd leg of Singapore Paintball Novice Series 2008 held last June 21, 2008 saw also another first of PSG Warfreakz history as we sent an 5 all female team composed of Athena, Bertha, Sweetsleen, Chel, and Kitkatz. The all female team proves to be as aggressive as the two other all male PSG Warfreakz team. The 3 warfreakz team qualified during the quarterfinals, which ended with PSG Warfreakz Alpha, who were composed of Nabelrock, Speed, Blade and Exhopek went home with the Leg championship medals
The PSG Warfreakz Bravo who were tournament first timers also did made an impression during that 2nd leg with their no fear close range attack that startled everyone. PSG Warfreakz Bravo were composed of Archers, Wakoko, NaughtyIan, Ipoy and Franiboy.
And during the Singapore Paintball Novice Series 2008 finale game just recently held last October 12, 2008, both teams PSG WarfreakZ Alpha and Bravo ranks 1st and 3rd respectively during the elimination round and finally bows down during the quarter finals, against Team Mid Life Crusaders. The said team was 2nd place in the finals and the leg championship goes to Team Carnage.

And as fun as we are…and being marked as the coolest Filipino paintballer team of Singapore, the 2 teams came with our hair streaked with the Philippine flag colors. And most surprising of all, our team captain Nabelrock came with a Mohawk Indian haircut with red, blue and yellow colors in it. We were like circus clowns in the field, but we did entertain everyone that day, with our random funny dance moves every now and then.

And since the Singapore Paintball Novice Series 2008 championship is based tally points from Leg 1 and the number of game wins throughout the series. PSG Warfreakz Alpha was crowned as the Grand Champion of the 1st Singapore Paintball Novice Series 2008. And as a the SPNS Champion, the team will represent in the 5 man speedball competition of the 5th leg of Malaysia Paintball Official Circuit 2008 Division 4, this October 25 and 26 at Johor Bahru, Malaysia. This will be the first time that a 7-man Filipino team will represent in the Malaysia Paintball Official Circuit 2008. The warriors although unofficial, will carry the Philippine flag, the PinoySG banner and the pride of every Filipino in Singapore in Malaysia, to promote our country and to show to them the Filipino way of fighting in this speedball competition.

BSP Governor Amando M. Tetangco, Jr. said that the FLC to OFs and their beneficiaries is an ongoing program of the BSP to reach out to those who may be currently unbanked or underserved by formal financial institutions. The program underscores the importance of savings and informs participants of alternative opportunities for their remittances, such as placements in financial instruments and investments in business ventures. “Financial education is key to unlocking the potential of remittances as a tool for development in countries like the Philippines with a large segment of the population employed overseas,” Tetangco emphasized. Through this whole-day forum, the BSP also hopes to help overseas Filipinos prepare for their eventual reintegration into the economy.

PSG Badminton Club and Tropang Smashers go for a friendly Dual Meet Match up

Filed under: Group Activities — admin @ 12:00 am

PinoySG Badminton Club, the first Filipino registered badminton club of Singapore in cooperation with Tropang Smashers, one of the popular Filipino badminton groups here in Singapore will staged their first dual meet match up as part of the club’s annual event this October 18, 2008, Saturday at Tampines Sports Hall – home court of Tropang Smashers.

In view of promoting camaraderie, unity and harmony among Filipino badminton players in Singapore, PSG badminton club has been inviting popular and strong badminton groups such as Tropang Smashers and Team Lagalag for a friendly match up.

The dual meet was originally conceptualized by Gary Cristobal currently head of PSG Badminton Club last year with Team Lagalag as the first team we challenge. With Team Lagalag known for their best smashers, the club bows down in defeat but gain more experience and friends at the same time.

This year, we are hoping not only to win the Dual Meet Cup but to learn more skills by playing with their best players.

Tropang Smashers has been one of the original badminton groups here who organizes annual badminton tournaments for several years now. Tropang Smashers has been very supportive also to all the tournaments organized by PinoySG Badminton Club. Their lean 55 members is known to be very well skilled and trained in badminton sports.

PinoySG Badminton Club which started last May 2007 and was recently granted membership in the Registered Society of Singapore was more focus of promoting badminton sport with its open policy, and caters to almost 200 members as of the present. The logistics and administration of this huge group has given the club officers which we called as badheadz, enough experiences in handling tournaments such as this. Morever, the group has been training an elite group of Level A and B players to represent the club on all the tournaments.

The PinoySG Badminton Club vs Tropang Smashers Dual Meet will be officiated by umpires from Singapore Badminton Association and will be managed by PinoySG Badminton Club badheadz.

Both teams will come in full uniform and will field their best players against each other to determine who has the best skills and techniques in badminton.

See them outdo, outwit and outplay each other for the coveted cup of Dual Meet Champion.

In addition to this event, the club will continue the quarterly exclusive PSG Badminton Club Intercolor tournament for the rest of the year to inspire our members to play and to practice their skills. Here are the other upcoming events of our club
